Frequently Asked Questions

What comes in a complete kit?

Every kit here, air horn or train horn, ships as a full system: the horn, an air tank, a compressor, air line, a pressure switch, PTC fittings, wiring, and mounting hardware. That is what separates this collection from stand-alone train horns, which assume you already have onboard air. Across every kit in this collection the components scale with the horn, so a compact 2-Chime kit and a Shocker S6 544K contain the same categories of parts at very different sizes.

Will a complete kit fit a car rather than a truck?

Yes, and how the trumpets mount matters more than the size of the kit. The Rocker and Conductor's Special kits are the best choices for a car because their horns mount individually rather than sitting on one bulky manifold, so you can spread them out and run them in whatever configuration the car allows, even across opposite sides of the vehicle. The 2-Chime and 4-Chime kits can work as well, but each horn is one complete unit, so finding room is harder and usually means going behind the grille or front bumper. The air system needs a home too, typically the trunk floor or spare-tire well.

How do I choose between an air horn kit and a train horn kit here?

Decide on the sound first, then the space. Air horn kits use shorter trumpets and a sharper note, which packs into smaller vehicles. Train horn kits use longer trumpets tuned to a chord for the locomotive tone, and need more room. Because this collection carries both, you can compare them side by side; the deeper the tone you want, the more mounting space you should plan for.

How much does a complete kit cost?

Kit prices span a wide range here, and the driver is the size of the air system far more than the badge on the horn. Compact air horn kits such as the 2-Chime and 4-Chime Air Horn Kits sit at the entry end, pairing a small tank with a single compressor. Mid-range train horn kits like the Flatlaw and Mini Outlaw add a larger tank and a longer trumpet set. At the top, full locomotive kits such as the Conductor's Special and the genuine Nathan AirChime setups run 5-gallon air systems and full-size horns, which is where the biggest jumps come from. Current pricing for every kit is listed above on this page.

Do I need to buy anything else to finish the install?

No. The kit is the complete system: horn, air tank, compressor, air line, pressure switch, PTC fittings, wiring, and mounting hardware all ship together. You supply basic hand tools, a mounting location, and an afternoon for a clean install. If you already own an air system and only want the horn, shop the stand-alone horns instead. Adding a larger air tank later is optional, not required.

Can I upgrade a kit later with a larger tank or a different horn?

Yes. The horn, tank, and compressor are separate components joined by air line, so any of them can be swapped later. The usual upgrade is a larger air tank for more honk time, since that does not require changing the horn. Keep fittings and line size consistent when you swap parts.

Do you have air horns for trucks and semis?

Yes. Every kit on this page fits trucks and semis, and most fit cars and SUVs as well. For a full-size pickup the 2-gallon and 5-gallon systems give the longest honk before the compressor has to catch up, since a bigger tank holds more air. If space is tight under a smaller truck, the compact 3-Liter and 1.5-gallon options fit where a larger tank will not. Both the air horns and the train horns here install the same way, so the choice comes down to the tone you want and how much mounting room the truck has.
