What the XD4000 actually is

Duty cycle

Heat decides, not a timer

The compressor runs whenever it needs to. Work it hard enough and it gets hot, and a thermal overload switch shuts it off until it cools. Duty cycle tells you how soon that point arrives.

A 25 or 30 percent compressor reaches that point sooner, so a long job can pause partway through. A 100 percent compressor keeps going much longer before heat stops it. It's a rating measured at a stated pressure, not a promise of unlimited runtime. Two fans buy the headroom: a 100 CFM fan cools the body and motor, and a second cools the 2.2 hp motor internally.

THERMAL OVERLOAD TRIPS HOTTER LONGER THE JOB RUNS 25 to 30% compressor hits cutoff here and the job stops XD4000, rated 100% at 200 PSI still running

Electrical load

What it pulls

Current rises with pressure. Before this goes in a truck, the number that matters is the draw at your working pressure. That's what your alternator and your cable have to carry.

Two fans, one 2.2 hp motor, one pump. The cooling is why the draw stays where the chart says it does.

Airflow is the same on both. The draw is not. At 100 PSI a 12 volt system pulls 170A where 24 volt pulls 95A. Adding this to an existing 12 volt truck? Size the alternator and the cable for the top of that blue line, not the bottom. It's the single most common thing people underestimate here. Figures are at sea level with the unit cold. Flow drops as temperature or altitude rises.

Do you need a tank?

Often not. It'll run a 1/2" impact wrench with no tank in the system at all, given adequate power and two-second trigger bursts. Oasis tested it past 160 ft/lbs on 9/16" lug nuts that way.

A tank will

  • Cut the number of cycles the compressor runs, which lowers stress and extends its life
  • Support tools this cannot run alone, such as 3/4" impacts, die grinders and sanders

A tank will not

  • Change how much work the compressor does. Air taken out still has to be put back
  • Fill tires any faster. This unit is efficient enough that a tank makes no difference

Fewer components means fewer leaks and fewer things to fail on a service call. If your tools are inside what it runs on its own, skip the tank. The simpler system is the better one.

Before you buy

Do I need an air tank?
Often not. Oasis compressors run with or without a tank. This one will run a 1/2" impact wrench with no tank at all if you give it adequate power per the Oasis Power Addendum, use a tool that is efficient with air (the Ingersoll Rand IR231 and 2135Ti work well), and pull the trigger in two-second bursts. Oasis has tightened 9/16" lug nuts past 160 ft/lbs that way. A tank still helps: fewer compressor cycles, and it is the only way to run 3/4" impacts, die grinders and sanders.
What does it pull from the truck?
At 12 volts it draws 110A at 0 PSI, 140A at 50 PSI and 170A at 100 PSI, with a 190A maximum. At 24 volts it draws 65A, 80A and 95A, with a 110A maximum. Size the alternator and the cable for the top of that range, and follow the Oasis Power Addendum before you wire it.
How fast does it fill a tank?
Published rates at 12 volts: a 5-gallon tank from empty to 150 PSI in 54 seconds, and from 120 to 150 PSI in 11 seconds. A 10-gallon tank takes 1:47 from empty and 22 seconds from 120 PSI. At 24 volts the same fills take 51 and 10 seconds, and 1:40 and 20 seconds.
Does 12 volt or 24 volt change the performance?
No. Airflow is the same on both, 15 CFM at 0 PSI falling to 9 CFM at 100 PSI. What changes is the current, which is roughly half at 24 volts. Pick the voltage your vehicle runs.
What maintenance does it need?
A 50-hour service interval. It ships pre-filled with synthetic oil, and the Oasis owner's manual linked in the specifications above covers the schedule.
Who handles the warranty?
Oasis does, directly: a 1-year manufacturer's defect warranty, with a contact link in the policies below. HornBlasters adds a 30-day satisfaction replacement or refund guarantee, and an extended warranty is available as an add-on in the buy box.
