    FAQ's

    HOW DO AIR HORNS WORK?

Air horns use compressed air to produce a loud, attention-grabbing honk. The compressed air is released through a solenoid valve/air valve, pushing it through a diaphragm inside the horn. This creates vibrations that produce the horn’s unique tone. HornBlasters air horn kits come with everything you need to get the kit up and honking in no time. Our kits include an air compressor, air tank, air valve, air horns, complete wiring kit, necessary hardware, air line, and more. Each component is designed to work together seamlessly for easy installation and powerful performance.

CAN I INSTALL AN AIR HORN ON MY CAR OR TRUCK?

Absolutely! HornBlasters air horn kits are designed for easy installation on cars, trucks, SUVs, boats, and more. Our kits come complete with everything you need to get the system up and honking in no time, including an air compressor, air tank, air valve, horns, complete wiring kit, necessary hardware, air line, and more. The Rocker Air Horn is a powerful option, featuring two of the four horns found in our famous Shocker XL train horn, offering a similar sound in a smaller package. If you’re unsure which kit fits your vehicle best, the Rocker Air Horn provides a versatile option for most vehicles thanks to its compact, flexible design.

    ARE AIR HORNS STREET LEGAL?

Yes, owning an air horn is legal. However, the key is how you use it. Most sound ordinances focus on noise levels in public spaces, so it’s best to avoid using air horns to cause disturbances. Using your HornBlasters horn to alert distracted drivers or avoid collisions is generally seen as acceptable by law enforcement. If you’re unsure or unfamiliar with your state’s specific laws, it’s best to consult a local attorney to ensure full compliance with regional regulations.

WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN AIR HORNS AND TRAIN HORNS?

A train horn is a specific type of air horn that features at least three horns tuned to create the distinct "train horn" sound. Train horns, like the Shocker XL and the Nathan Airchime K5, have a deeper, more powerful tone compared to standard air horns, which tend to have higher-pitched, single-note sounds.

    HOW LOUD ARE AIR HORNS?

HornBlasters air horns are significantly louder than factory vehicle horns, delivering a powerful honk that’s impossible to ignore. Our air horns, including popular models like the 2-Chime, Rocker, Safety Horn, Super Echo, and Kahlenberg ship horns, are engineered to produce a sharp, commanding sound that stands out in any environment.

Unlike standard horns, which are often limited in range and volume, HornBlasters air horns provide the extra volume needed to be heard in high-noise situations like traffic, heavy machinery, and marine conditions. Each model is designed to deliver a distinct tone, giving you the flexibility to choose the right sound for your needs. Whether it’s a compact option like the Rocker or a larger model like the Kahlenberg KM-165, every air horn we offer is built to provide a clear and strong blast every time.

WHAT'S INCLUDED IN A AIR HORN KIT?

HornBlasters air horn kits come with everything you need to get your system up and honking as quickly as possible. Our kits are designed for easy, DIY installation, making them accessible for users of all experience levels. Each kit is built to ensure you have every essential component from start to finish, so you won’t have to track down any additional parts.

Our air horn kits includes air horns, an air compressor, an air tank, a air valve, a pressure switch, air line, mounting hardware, a complete wiring kit, and a detailed instruction manual. We’ve also gone a step further to make your install even easier by including an air line cutter and a pair of ear plugs, so you’re fully equipped to handle the job. Our goal is to make sure that no matter your experience level, you’ll have everything you need to get your system installed and honking in no time.

HOW MUCH PRESSURE DO I NEED FOR MY AIR HORN?

HornBlasters air horns operate most effectively at air pressures between 120-150 PSI (pounds per square inch). This pressure range is carefully selected to deliver consistent performance and optimal sound quality. Any pressure above 150 PSI is not recommended, as it can negatively impact sound clarity and reduce overall loudness. Our air systems are designed to maintain this ideal pressure range, ensuring your horn sounds as sharp and powerful as intended.

CAN I USE MY AIR SYSTEM FOR OTHER PURPOSES, LIKE INFLATING TIRES?

Yes! HornBlasters air systems are designed to be versatile and handle more than just honking horns. Our air compressors and tanks are capable of inflating tires, operating air tools, and powering air suspension systems. If you’re looking for an all-in-one solution, our 127H, 228H, and 232 air horn kits are ideal choices. These kits come fully equipped to handle additional pneumatic tasks, giving you the flexibility to do more with your system.

HOW DO I MAINTAIN MY AIR HORN KIT?

Maintaining your air horn kit is simple but crucial for long-term reliability. We recommend using the drain valve to drain moisture from the air tank 1-2 times per month to prevent water buildup. We also recommend regularly inspecting air lines and fittings for leaks, especially after heavy usage or exposure to rough conditions.

It’s also important to maintain the air compressor’s air filter. Check the filter regularly and replace it every 3-4 months, depending on usage. Keeping the air filter clean ensures optimal airflow and prevents strain on the compressor. Following these simple maintenance steps will keep your air horn system running smoothly and performing at its best.

how hard is it to install an air horn kit?

If you’re handy with basic tools, you’ll have no problem installing a HornBlasters air horn kit. Every kit comes with step-by-step instructions and everything you need for a complete install. Common tools required include a socket set, wrenches, and basic electrical tools for wiring. Our kits are designed to be as straightforward as possible, making installation accessible for users of all experience levels.

DO I NEED A AIR COMPRESSOR FOR AN AIR HORN?

Yes, air horns require an air compressor to supply the air pressure needed to produce their loud, electrifying honk. HornBlasters air horn kits come with air compressors that are specifically designed to provide the pressure needed for all of our horns to perform as expected. This ensures they produce the loudness and best tone possible. Without an air compressor, the horns wouldn’t have the air pressure required to operate effectively.

For those looking for a simpler setup, HornBlasters also offers electric horn options. Some of our electric horns have a built-in air compressor, while others use a small external direct drive air compressor that doesn’t require an air tank. This design allows for a more compact and straightforward installation. While electric horns aren't as loud as horns powered by an onboard air system, they’re a great option for people looking for something louder than a factory horn without requiring a full air system.

HOW DO I KEEP MY AIR HORN FROM FREEZING IN COLD WEATHER?

If you’re in a cold climate, moisture inside the horns can freeze and cause issues. To prevent this, it’s essential to drain the air system frequently enough to stop moisture from being forced through the horns. Additionally, the orientation in which the horns are mounted plays a key role. Mounting the horns in a way that allows moisture to drain naturally prevents it from becoming trapped inside, reducing the risk of freezing within the horns.

Moisture can also accumulate inside the air system’s tank due to temperature fluctuations, which causes condensation to form. To prevent this, we recommend draining moisture from the air tank 1-2 times per month using the tank’s drain valve. While air dryers or moisture traps can remove moisture before it enters the tank, they cannot stop condensation from forming inside the tank itself. Regular tank drainage is the most effective way to prevent freezing-related issues in your air system.
